MDS
3.0 and You
CMS announced
the release of the MDS 3.0 draft specifications on October 17, 2008,
with the final specifications expected by March 2009.
The
upcoming MDS 3.0 regulatory requirement is one of the most significant
changes that our industry will ever experience. You can be assured
that ALL MDI Achieve clients will have an available solution with
this change by the October 1, 2009 implementation date. No matter
which MDI Achieve product you use, you will have the full support
of all MDI Achieve employees.
Development
planning is already occurring to ensure MDS 3.0 functionality is
available for all of our customers who use Matrix, On-Line
Advantage, PathLinks, QuickCare, ULTRACare,
GENECARE, and DataCare. Several MDI Achieve employees
have been involved in MDS 3.0 discussions with CMS in order to ensure
that this transition is as smooth as possible. Please note that
MDI Achieve understands the impact of this change to all of our
customers and how it affects your overall business processes. Thank
you for your continued support of MDI Achieve products. If you have
any questions about this change, please feel free to contact any
MDI Achieve representative.

Annual
Rate Updates
It's
almost that time again! CMS will publish the 2009 Medicare B Fee
Schedules in late 2008 and these price changes must be updated in
your QuickCare software for accurate billing. To simplify
this process, QuickCare has an easy-to-use import wizard.
Look for the Item Charge Update Tool icon under System Maintenance
2.
Once you have downloaded the appropriate Excel file from the CMS
website, simply double-click the icon to begin the wizard (this
tool is security controlled).
Please be aware that CMS often changes the rates several times prior
to the effective date, so don't rush to upload the first information
you get!
NOTE: Once
you have completed the rate update, you cannot undo the process.
Please be sure to run a backup of the QuickCare system prior
to using the wizard.
As
always, please call our Client Support hotline at 800-259-7633
with any questions you may have.

From
Care Plan to Progress Notes: A Guide for Success
The
Nursing Care Plan is designed to be a specific approach for an individual
resident. Care Plans provide the guidelines for care and must be
designed for interventions specific to the needs of the resident.
Most
facilities do an outstanding job of developing Care Plans with Problems,
Goals and Interventions. And then, once the Care Plan is developed
by the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), it is filed in the chart, or
another “easily accessible” file. However, the gap between initiating
the Care Plan, implementing the Interventions and then evaluating
the Care Plan’s effectiveness by the IDT is a very big gap, indeed.
